General Psychiatry & Mental Health
Q1: What can I expect during my first visit with the psychiatrist?
A: Your first visit typically involves a comprehensive evaluation of your mental, emotional, and physical health. The psychiatric nurse practitioner will ask about your medical history, current symptoms, lifestyle, and goals. This helps develop a personalized treatment plan.
Q2: Do you prescribe medication?
A: Yes. If appropriate, medication may be prescribed to support mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or others. The psychiatric nurse practitioner will explain benefits, risks, and monitor your response over time.
Q3: What conditions do you treat?
A: We treat a wide range of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety disorders, trauma (PTSD), OCD, bipolar disorder, stress-related disorders, and schizophrenia.
Q4: Will therapy be a part of my treatment?
A: It may be. Some patients benefit from a combination of medication and psychotherapy. We may provide therapy directly or refer you to a trusted therapist.
Addiction Treatment
Q5: What types of addiction do you treat?
A: We treat substance use disorders (alcohol, opioids, stimulants, etc.), using evidence-based approaches like medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and relapse prevention planning.
Q6: Do you offer medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction?
A: Yes. We offer MAT options including Buprenorphine (Suboxone), Naltrexone, Vivitrol, Brixadi, Sublocade, and others, depending on the patient’s needs and clinical appropriateness.
Q7: Is addiction treatment confidential?
A: Absolutely. All patient information is protected by HIPAA and confidentiality laws. We ensure a safe and supportive environment.
Q8: How long does addiction treatment take?
A: The duration varies based on individual needs. Some patients see improvement in a few months; others benefit from long-term support. Recovery is a process, not a one-size-fits-all solution.
Weight Management & Mental Health
Q9: How is mental health connected to weight loss?
A: Mental health can significantly impact eating habits, motivation, self-esteem, and energy levels. Addressing emotional and psychological factors is key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.
Q10: What treatments do you offer for weight loss?
A: We offer an integrative approach that may include behavioral counseling, nutritional guidance, medication for appetite control or metabolic support, and treatment of coexisting conditions like depression or binge eating disorder.
Q11: Can you prescribe weight loss medication?
A: Yes, if clinically appropriate. We prescribe FDA-approved medications such as GLP-1 agonists Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy), Tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) (Bupropion/Naltrexone), or others after a full assessment.
Q12: Will I need to follow a specific diet or exercise plan?
A: Plans are personalized. We provide evidence-based guidance but rigid or fad diets are not typically recommended.
